Stevenson Elementary Artist in Residence Program Drumming Up New Installation - Friday, April 20, 2018, at 2:20 p.m.
The Grandview Heights Schools, and its collaborative partners, are inviting local media to be a part of our next public art project.

On Friday, April 20, 2018, at 2:20 p.m., Grandview Heights Schools will officially launch the next 5Columns Project at the corner of West First Avenue and Oxley Road on the lawn of Stevenson Elementary during its’ annual spring All Arts Day.

The entire school engages with creative artists, musicians, dancers, and ceramicists for a full day of fun and learning. Parent volunteer Henrietta Cartwright has extended this concept throughout the school years via an Artist in Residence Program.

The next artist in residence will be Eric Paton, Head of World Music at Capital University. He has guided students in creating multiple buffalo drums. The drum-making also involved students from the Grandview Heights High School Industrial Technology classes who cut the wood for the bases and the Larson Middle School Art Club who glued the bases together. Stevenson Elementary students have pierced and stretched the rawhide. These collaborative drums will be installed for All Arts Day on Friday, April 20, at 2:20 p.m. and the community is welcome to attend and play.

5columns.org brings together artists and students to create interactive, surprising, and joyful art projects to engage and impact the greater community. The Columns act as a platform for these cross-curriculum educational creations. This ongoing public art initiative succeeds in bringing together the Grandview Heights Schools with the wider community through it’s installations.

5columns sponsors include the Grandview Heights Schools, the City of Grandview Heights, Fortin Ironworks, Research Alloys, the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Education Foundation, the Ohio Arts Council, and National Endowment for the Arts.
