Math Counts

MathCounts inspires excellence, confidence and curiosity in middle school students through fun and challenging math problems. It is a national enrichment, coaching and competition program that helps provide today’s students with the foundation for success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.

This is the 14th year for MathCounts in Grandview Heights. The goal is to have some fun with challenging math problems, improve skills in solving problems, and compete against students in other area schools. Subjects covered include percentages, ratios, statistics, probability, combinations, logic, algebra and geometry – math taught through 10th grade.

MathCounts meets from October through January - on Wednesdays during lunch for 7th and 8th graders, and during Extended Core for 6th graders - to practice solving a variety of problems. In addition, there’s a coaching session on Friday mornings at 7:15 a.m. (with donuts!) to briefly teach the overall principles needed to solve problems.

In January there is a school competition where eight students are selected to participate in the regional competition which is held at Columbus State in February.
