Students Advocate for Safe Schools

March 14, 2018, is designated as National Student Walkout Day to bring awareness to the issue of school violence. An estimated 200 Grandview Heights High School students braved cold temperatures for 17 minutes in memory of the 17 lives lost in Parkland, Florida, due to school violence.

Earlier this week, a group of Grandview Heights High Schools students expressed the desire to help organize a walkout themed in support of “safer schools.”  As a result of this movement, their intended outcome is for critical conversations to begin that will ultimately lead to safer schools.

"We support our students and want to appropriately empower them to have a voice. Student activism is a great way for them to grow and mature as young people," stated GHHS Principal Ken Chaffin.
