On October 24th, 2016, Edison Intermediate and Larry Larson Middle School hosted their first Building Level Team Meeting. This video is a presentation that followed a building tour led by District administration and building staff.

okay let's go ahead and get started if you have a small bruise and a lot of people store that left at the store but that's okay so first off for those of you that I may or may not know my name is Annie Golf and I've been fortunate privileges Curry number to this marks the second building meeting that we had our first last Wednesday at Stevenson we have our third building meeting tomorrow night at Grandview Heights High School and with the content that we're going to be sharing with you is similar fashion as what we share with you and Shannon will be sharing you yesterday however the form that will be getting from you in the process at the end of this will be a little different because it's focused on Edison and Larson  I want to take a quick moment and trigga Trey raise your hand. Virginia Virtual scores well as interviewing afterwards also Caleb Acres who is not present is volunteering to babysit in the believe the turn the living room so thank you Kayla that's very nice I also want to just quickly thing Tracy leaves repair I want to thank Marvin alter and Jamie Lusher for helping with the today's presentation on 21st Century Learning I want to thank Haley had for helping me facilitate this if you haven't signed it please do so my asking you to sign in doesn't have anything to do with my trying to keep track of who's attending not too rather it increases our ability in particular if you don't have a student District to push it formation or Community member not on our one of our set that really helps us push information out so that's why I was doing it I want to see there's bread for your being here off last week as well as tonight and tomorrow night thank you for answering the question why are we here I think it's important because today we're going to be talking a lot about educational missioning and Form and Function  are helpless enabled tomorrow's learner tomorrow's teachers and our community we're going to be talking a lot about 21st Century Learning space and what that means I think turn also to keep this grounded on why we're here we are here because of the referred maintenance and capitals and fruit we are here because of deferred maintenance and capital Improvement I think you are aware of most of you anyway specially degree to which you are vested in this process the assessment that was estimates that are referred made as in capital of proven district-wide was in the neighborhood of 44 million. And that's why we're here okay it doesn't mean all that needs to be done but we do have an issue with regard to maintenance Capital Improvement in the degree to which that's been deferred that's why that what we're a little different where we are so hpg is completed the first phase which is the comprehensive Ability Center I would prefer vanity Capital Improvement line item by line item of what first building meetings it is in my humble opinion and I'll say this or Wednesday night at the task force that we do need to hire a planner and that ideally we would like have that planter hired in advance that if that's not realistic I think the calendar May need to be adjusted this is just one man's view but that's fine show to another words it's going to it's going to look into a option and they'll be community-wide meetings around pros and cons of each and I participated in this process in my previous life probably four different times what I've observed have the most often as you get down to three options and there's a fourth option that usually is a combination of two of them that usually Rises to the top and that's the one presented to the board for their consideration a different time but I'm not yet good knowing that we have to do 3D Benchmark the process of Milwaukee discovery are you saying that I think that that'll be I think that end it will be important in those decisions but you know we booked it and his example of Wyoming in Cincinnati they sat down in the room brought all the experts from the community gather develop most efficient best plan for that building they went through a process what comes up with may be the most efficient best option but they're everyone's pay for it right so I think it's trying to get the balance between those between those two so and when you look at these meetings are important but that's just one data point so you look at it Community surveys panels of experts on some other districts is focus groups are people are behind I mean I'm so thrilled these everyone down here tonight we got to make sure that we're engaging about the winery really believe is cup one you know hundred years ago this community made a decision to build the buildings that were still going into school and those decisions in the decisions that we make now even if it's to do nothing could have implications for the future of this community students that attend school for decades if not centuries for a century for and so I do think it important that we have experts tell us something important that we get it right and in order to get it right you do have to have internet flowers processes now I also do think this that at certain points is going to superintendent here for a little over two years I am almost 100% positive that is it going to be one plan  so at some point messages going to happen at what point are we going to see concrete ideas about psychologist address accessibility when I didn't bring the calendar would be the beginning of formulation of options and ideas so it would be mine my belief that the second building base meeting there would be five bill some specific renderings with cost associated with ideas the timeline if we created was done in collaboration with the facility task force this board of education myself in the facility planner so we fairly can rightfully are going to want to talk to you  if we choose to hire another facility clan that person and he or she is going to help us decide when that how line is commensurate with what he or she believes we can get done I'm confident optimistic that that will be the case but I think rightfully so this person is going to what is her her license on it as well  one of the things looking back in hindsight on the city school project wish you would have taken the opportunity to get  financial  a lot of options and maybe that part of the Public's decision making coming up with the investment silly that met everyone needs and then sit public thanks now we're going to try to go on Facebook yeah so let's talk about that for just a second so Grandview Heights marble Cliff has a dead dealing with 52 million. a lot more than the debt ceiling and there's a lot of private and I don't know that those discussions come in and then there's also a big real discussion to even like whatever off to me Cowboys is different ways that excuse also inside we talked about 21st century learners which are your children are students  your teachers 21st century teaching practices so that's the practice How We Do 21st century Learners and then we will talk about 21st Century Learning spaces so if we have 21st century Learners and we are practicing 21st reteaching what could or should our 21st Century Learning spaces look like keeping in mind that the building that were in I'm guessing the schools you all went to I'm older than most of you you're probably everybody here but we probably had very similar School experiences where do you were facing the teacher that you so you said if we have the opportunity for the lawyers are going to be talking about it to design space for them that's okay so one of the things that you will notice especially the report cards come out this year something called morning afternoon about the stuff Comet very important ocean slides we actually say those are the skills that why they made you hired promoted or fired so I don't resolve on Harlan experiences throughout our district age well we are really focusing on making sure it's not just a product persons with the communication we want to be a simplistic as we can if the sharing of ideas sharing of thoughts the ability to communicate with one person and I get adult or the folks that you might be sharing and my face burning up it might be talking in front of an audience in might be contributing relevantly in a small group session but all of those pieces and parts really matter and we know that students were really gifted and being able speak to an audience may have a really hard time elaborating as a team member and we want to put our students in room ways throughout their day around gears needs to do all  collaboration on sure all of you get when you're in school how many of you had a project were you had to work with somebody got to do this also in the app when you painted it and wanted me to videoconferencing outside expert are students your children have the opportunity they live in a global Society collaboration really means teaching them to have opportunities to collaborate here in school but also on a much broader. those around you but that also means that you learn a lot about what you need to think about  the recycle Optical thinking so it's that process how we get to that end in my how we get to that solution turn on the kids in environments where they can't effectively problem-solving critically think you know when I was in school the teacher was the sole vehicle of knowledge and I had to wait for that that knowledge me now I can put our kids in an environment where they can do the research they can my information and bring it to us and then we have to leave in through that process and thinking analytically evaluate horses synthesizing information and taking it to areas that we would have never thought possible because a lot more the highest level of learning that's creative exploration of us being very methodical intentional about getting out of the way and letting them explore supporting a developmentally giving on them all the skills that they need but then allowing them to creators  in the word creativity Thursday come up three or four times to Jamie was speaking creativity you could almost think of creativity is being that first dominoes the game which all the other seats another 20% risk of how you approach problem-solving how do you look at a problem problem finding it so we like to provide opportunities for 2 through project-based side right here will hold 32 kids if you open it there's an identical room over here the whole 32 she can hold before this day if you open up this garage door in the garage door if you have a bigger space that can be shared collaboratively flexible this is the library noticed lunch over here these kids ate lunch in here and after lunch bus pulled out their books in Warsaw tell me about a book that they all of the hallway it's just a breakouts can small groups DVD work on the work process apply their knowledge this is in the hallway again just a little note fart okay so this is that when
