good evening everyone, half a gravy white school staff students the Border education I want to welcome you the amazing Grandview Heights Community to our third round of our building design Community meetings we have a lot of content to share and updates to provide and we need one value your input tonight we will be sharing with you the outcomes of the combination of our programming schematic design as well as the beginning of our design development process we have established I think probably is all of you know by now a link to our facility planning page that will allow anyone to give their feedback after today's meeting all feedback will be sent to the court and the Board of Education who will ultimately make all final decisions we are again tonight recording video recording our meeting in the video will be updated to our facility I think it typically takes around three days or so 48 hours to condense the video into a format that can be uploaded to our web page just so everyone knows we also will have the PowerPoint and agendas from tonight's meeting uploaded on our facility planning webpage just as an FYI also the PowerPoint from our programming community meeting and the PowerPoint from are schematic design meeting and video are also all on our facility web page for your review we will continue to update that page as we press together on this journey we do ask that due to the density and amount of content we ask that you hold your questions till the end and at the end the administration Board of Education architects Builder's participants of our programming meetings and design development meetings will be circulating to answer any and all of your questions individually intended outcomes for today's meeting are we obviously want to welcome you we're going to share some of our guiding beliefs the project and projected timeline recap of the community meeting number two a draft of our design update as I mentioned we engaged in programming schematic design and we've had our first design development meetings are going to be sharing with you some of those modifications and up then we do have also a feedback activity that we need your help with slide is a visual representation of the decision-making framework that Grandview Heights schools will be following throughout the master facility building design phase of our planning process today's meeting marks our third round of community meeting input sessions and have been in be open to all community members and coincide with the four phases of our process as mentioned we've been gauged in programming and had a corresponding community meeting we engaged and schematic design and had a corresponding Community meet we're in the process of the design development this community meeting is aligned to the design development process and then we will the next phase is construction documents in we have a community meeting scheduled for August 21st at 7 p.m. and August 22nd at 9 p.m. the content of those meetings will be the same by the way the varying input groups include programming committee staff student years ago Architects and from our community the neighborhood Committee of adjacent neighbors district-wide environmental team and Park Community meetings again these groups providing input to our core team the core team is comprised I'm sorry comprised of District officials construction Professionals in our architecture professionals and board members this group based on input from the above stated committees will make recommendations to the Grandview Heights Schools Board of Education who will be the ones to ultimately make the final decision I think probably at this point most everyone in this room has seen this slide however it's always important to revisit it how we communicated our timeline extensively slide is the same timeline that we've shown previously and so the one thing that is different about this slide as mentioned multiple times in my intro we are in the design development phase and we're just beginning that face there I do want to take a brief moment I think that all five of our board members are here so I am going to ask just take a brief moment and introduce them in before I do that I just want to thank them for their selfless leadership and service above self and their tireless work not only on behalf of the school district but the community so actually please join me to give him a round of applause I can't thank them enough. Melissa parmigiano Brandon Eric Bode Molly wassmuth and Jesse truck I also wanted to introduce just take a moment and introduce some of the folks from our team but before I do I also want to just take a moment and introduce our Treasurer Beth Collier bath if you waive thank you for your leadership as well so a couple important folks in the room who invented edible from the journey that we've been on since passing in November 6th that the core team members and it's been a privilege to learn and work with you so Doug Addis nuggets are under threat Steve's ranen Steve is with Moody Nolan Rick Astley Rick is with mksk he's architectural design for the project Stephen Church says with Perkins well and he's been Inseparable from getting us to where we are if I have forgotten someone i j change the DNS OJ is with Alfred he'll be a project manager so I'm going to turn this presentation over to Steve Turk so please join me in a warm welcome for Steve what is Thanksgiving quite a few of you okay can I ask a quick question cuz I know there's two people in here I know there's two people beside show me who's been at every single community meeting so if you been at every single one okay I knew those two had that's impressive I was going to hold until I get a trick I can't I can't do this right so you guys can hear me I don't need this and can you hear me all right okay let's move on those of you that we're at the last meeting these sheets that are on the screen now she familiar to you we ask for your input on a couple of things one couple of site planning ideas Rick SB from mksk the Landscape Architects going to talk about this site here in a moment but and also on the left we had some visuals of the exterior of the building that we asked for some input on we've been asking just about every group that we've been touching for a friend put on all this and so this is where you got the number tell the vast majority of folks like the sperm or squared off what we called the Portico entry as opposed to that flat Arch and then on the E site plan most Folk felt the felt at Fairview going through and that site plan was a good approach and so again Rick's going to talk about that in a few moments but just to give you a sense of the journey Briana gather and then the outcomes of that okay and so I said Rick is going to text you talk right now that was quick so that you could get over to hear me great as we talked last time there were a couple of site plans that we looked at for the overall site this is the Baseline plan this is what beats current funding cycles that I were proved what the  is. is Fairview as you currently remember there's a turn around right here when we build the new building that turnaround has to go away it's going to be extended down sure yeah hello okay this this meets our current site plan for what the value is for the side it's hard to believe that we have to use about half of that goes underground utilities decide stormwater it's those kind of things that go underground so we got about a million dollars and improvements that you will actually see on the surface of the of the overall site Dallas talking about the drop off that exist here today when we build the new Middle School. Bach was a way that drop off will end up happening right here will be the new drop off at middle school you'll see the existing parking lots along first along Oakland at Oakland and 3rd Street as well as I heart Fairview with her those will remain in the Baseline site plan because the building takes out a parking lot here in a portion of this we lose about 45 parking spaces when we do that those 45 spaces are replaced play straight here until we get there we keep the same 160 Parts bases that are on site today in the future as I mentioned we have a drop off in the front entry Plaza for the School Happening Here the playgrounds will be relocated to the West with the heart service play with basketball court sports wear those kind of things and saucer display of his to accept another element in this location brand new and we have the same square footage as what you have out there today in the middle school because of the count consolidation of the overall site we got a lot of little bits and pieces of lawn area today fade into one big area and we have room for a month on purpose Plainfield in this location is kind of a middle school size play Feel is not as big as of the full football field for Joy. That's what is a multi-purpose play this location the existing Gardens will remain down in this corner the improvements to the front of the high school will be at 80th Cecil pathway currently there's a few steps up in order to get into the high school will be rapping celebrity remove that in the front door Civic spaces and places plant that were talking about isn't that where you were looking at in Kentucky coordination with the city of Grandview Heights where Fairview Street will go all the way through the parking lots that exist today will be removed and a large parking lot in this location so we have the same 160 parking spaces that exist today will be in the final plan as well we have buy a retention in the middle here so that I get all the stormwater and cleaning it before it goes into the into the surface drainage we know we have some wet areas in this corner of the this will also help improve all that condition down there at those in those labor areas drop off Remains the Same location we have a formal entry into the middle school at this location The Hardscape and softscape leg a little bit for the West up along Oakland and one of the things that the City Planning Commission asked us to do because there is no young children's playgrounds in this area that City gas is to actually expand that area said we could actually put in some young children's play for the neighborhoods in this location at 17 Again that feeding done in coordination with the city of Grandview Heights again we've got the large multi-purpose play area wake tower out of the Middle School itself the front of the high school again will keep the same Ada accessibility to the front door the other thing that the city access to look at is to make this so much Grand Plaza in to connect the athletic facilities to the high school and sell in Saline wanted us to look at 3rd Street and it's another the vehicles being the primary movement at pedestrian being secondary I definitely in for his vehicle secondary and so we gonna raise table with extended that that bring gave me all the way across the street we approve the crosswalks at both Fairview and add the Oakland so this becomes a much more storage but stronger pedestrian area as you cross the street the other thing that we done is long this east side of the high school that becomes the what we call Bobcat it has outdoor dining areas it has sitting areas for the students outdoor classrooms buy a retention in kind of classrooms for biology type students all happening long by Bobcat way here and make it back full Mastery plan for the overall site so what are the components where we are is that the Board of Education and is in the process of having conversations and it early in the process relatively speaking with the Planning Commission and city council around does the spaces and places and Civic plan of the city and how we could they have identified by they I mean city council the for a campus in Prairie is one of three core Community areas for Grandview Heights marble cliff and so one of the things that we are having conversations with them about is how might the overall site plan be enhanced and what would that look like so no final decisions on that but that's where we are today so that's why we sure to plans the basic plan is the one that we is a district will be able to and if we're able to get some collaboration with the city there would be some enhancements of that overall site plan okay we're going to move on from that so what's happened let me talk a little bit about what the the process that we've been in and he mentioned at the beginning of the presentation that we have kind of left call the schematic design phase in a moved into design development let me talk a little bit about the differences between those two phases so in schematic design if you were at the coast community members we're trying to set the basic footprint of the building remember remember was it you that where they were talking about even different options for the Oberon Middle School footprint as it attaches to the high school to guys remember that they're trying to set the basic footprint the basic exterior imagery for the Building architecture vocabulary if you will so that's the idea of schematic design is to get you know what space is how do they relate to each other and plan what functions need to be near each other what's the footprint what's the size at the size of the footprint has a lot to do with a cost that gets develop bigger home usually cost more than a smaller home that that sort of Logics Trooper Trooper commercial in school buildings as well at the end of schematic design the doctor the stick instructions team put some estimates together on that cost he went through a an exercise where we looked at the the scope of the project relative to the cost and I'm happy to report wildweb do we did have to make some some messages about for materials and that type of things we didn't we didn't look we didn't know space in the building with sacrifice no educational spaces are programmatic areas needed to change in any way in the building itself and in fact team of the changes that we did make on the exterior of the building I think if you look at the before and after you may not see the difference know things like making windows a little bit less tall so we can use one type of Windows system versus another are the any other than the new typing less less costly so I'm going to point out a few of those types of things to you as we go through the the imagery but just wanted to have you understand what kind of where we are in the process so we're in design development and what that face is really how about now that the basic plan is set we're now starting to look at a lot more detail within the planning and other words where did it like in a science classroom where is that science Cabinetry go where we going to locate the sinks all that are very more specific and detailed information in all of the spaces is is really what we're focusing not focusing on now I would be looking at precise finishing is and the colors of those finishes in what kind of ceilings we have an idea on the ceilings but exactly what kind of ceilings and as we look at the various spaces in the building so it's so design developments layering on a whole nother layer of detail on the bill the next jump and is in the something, construction documents in that is really little bit more quiet and terms of Engagement because we're really focusing on things like how do we keep the water out of the building how does a mechanical system run through the bill and that type of thing is really all those details crossing the t's and dotting all the eyes so those documents can go out to the bidding community and contractors can put good competitive bids together ISO on the exterior of the building if he saw the the last meeting probably doesn't look at different to you and that's good news right from the standpoint of we went through that budgeting exercise and it really has not changed much at all one thing I the windows here on the second floor got a little bit that took it from one type of window system to another quite a bit less costly, but from an appearance standpoint if you said I showed you before and after you probably really wouldn't know the difference the Portico you're seeing all these renderings now it's not a question of our versus the Portico if you're going to see porticos and all these renderings but we're still talking really about and architecture that really honors and respects the original high school and I'm in the original High School original 3rd Street 1922 building which is really a sort of you shape these actually are additions that were done in the 50s very special of the original but you may not know those are additions to the buildings to the original high school but we really are in terms of the academic areas and in the middle school really trying to again book and the camp is so kind of matching what's North to what is South the main entry to the Middle School remains on the south side of the building with the administrative offices flanking I need to sign in an academic areas coming around sort of forming to you in the center as opposed to the current on high school to the theater at the high school what's in the center now is the library the middle school and the cafeteria that's kind of what's in the core of the building but for red brick a blended red brick that matches there's a couple of different variations on color can a high school were looking at matching the original that original third third street facade in terms of the brick color we still are looking at a series of chimneys here one thing that did happen we we decided to remove the chimneys off of these ends but I still keeping those on the south end is a little bit of a cost-savings with that the get down lower to the ground now this is from they on the Fairview side towards the front entry again that Portico the second floor bassinet groupings of three Windows per classroom very similar to the high school add add-on view straight to an elevation view from the south looking right at right at the building you can swear to how that really picks up on that architectural vocabulary the current High School and then a little bit of back up an aerial view now from the Oakland side again looking South towards the main X-ray and there's a some of the Hardscape play areas that Rick was mentioning the turn around and so forth but again picking up that that same sort of architectural vocabulary on existing High School this is the Middle School gym again one of the one of the issues that we did here was that brick sill was raised up just a little bit enough to get to that less expensive system of window still lots of daylight I'll see an interior perspective of that space a lot daylight will come into that space so really no no infringement on any kind of program there but saved a little bit of money down at the street level view now on Oakland side looking back at at the building so you can kind of see the the middle school jam here and then the middle school classroom building how much more Tighter and closer in view to the the the the entry to the Middle School pain and this is just showing you that again straight on elevations now one from the top of the page from the West so this would be the Oakland elevation and a lot of things at MKS gasquet is doing on the on the opposite side of the building in terms of Landscapes going to help tie that together so we wanted to show you the West Side Here original High School is this portion of the building it comes right over to these chimneys that is actually an addition in the background this is the current one story building at such right against Oakland for the tech in arts building there's a our classrooms in there and then this is really trying to differentiate the show you with a little bit of a darker color here did Santa get his to match but just to be able to differentiate on this elevation so that's all new construction in that little bit of a darker red brick color Atlanta South elevation which we just looked at a moment ago that's really trying to pick up on the existing roof line excuse me and cornice line of the building for the carrying that through it's a really trying to tell you I really I did that I think our goal is at the end of it feels like one unified campus when it when it's all said and done the planning of the building if you look at this at the last community meeting and look at it today cuz only very very slight tweaks to this and I'll just going to give you that sort the big picture as a result of that the high school Remains the high school under roof on the current building including the basement broccoli 120000 sq ft are the main front door over here Administration will flank that we are making some modifications to the theater too and to provide some handicapped accessibility to stage of things with lighting and rigging and that type of thing that type of things in the theater academic spaces wrapping around the theater this is because of that current ardentech building Israel become a sort of flexible place that centered around things like Robotics and Technology type spaces music spaces are clustered here similar to the way they are now we're taking over a little bit more space in this area Middle School High School dining the clinic is here thus one of the spaces that really gets shared between the two components is the the kitchen pushing food into the high school serving area on this side and the Middle School serving area side and then west of that is the new Middle School gym with lockers at set out in front of that allowing those lockers to be used if there's a high school event and a visiting team perhaps using those lockers for a visiting team play saying that Middle School cafeteria as a breakout space or pre-function space to either of the Jim's now since it's all connected internally and then and in the Middle School itself with the South entry tration clanking gnat Creek secure vestibules at both entrances which is important and then grade level 4th and 5th on the first floor library in the center with some core spaces those big things like some some mechanical space Janitor's Closet toilets who sings of things we have to have to make the building work located in Gray and in in more inboard and then the second floor academics is wrapping around the high volume of the theater of the media center is in its approximate location of this today and what's being reoriented to a corridor that connects both buildings in the north side directions to add one more front to the West along this Corridor then it does now which is out here to the north the wellness area here were removing visitors locker room that doesn't get used all that often we now have the middle school locker rooms below that I mentioned and providing space for wrestling up on the on the wellness level and then 6th 7th and 8th grade wrapping around the upper stories of the cafeteria and the and the media center a central office going way back to the I think the very first community meeting for the conversation about the wellness I'm sorry the central Ops on the first floor taking up to the second floor to allow special ed to go to the first war that was one of the outcomes of the first AA meetings central office is now up on the second floor located here and there then a couple of interior views this would be coming in the main entry to the Middle School these renderings are right out of the we are drawing are all of our buildings now in a in a three dimensional modeling software that's called rabbit so these are pulled right out of our Revit software we have yeah I really started looking at applying we had a meeting earlier today about maybe some ideas about color of the next time we come back we'll have more ideas will start wearing on some colors and materiality but this is just giving you a sense of the type of space or talk I saw the main entry the secret secure vestibule would be in the foreground of this photo coming in the library directly dead center on as you enter a nice girly glass wall there that let you see into the library and then through the library and to the cafeteria a stairs at plank that that take you out to allow students entering in the front door to get up if there is 6/7 or a Creator get immediately upstairs to their academic areas or during the day to come down to lunch or golden Co and Library Adam the Middle School gym which we talked about and that's that translucent glazing that would look out over Oakland to allow some light in but not the glare that you would get if it was just clear glass pool High School size a court that runs in the north-south direction and then we've got some collapsible bleach backboards that you're just seeing here and here that would come found allowed to cross courts to to happen for practices glaciers along the the East wall this is a in renovated space in the high school it's in that Tech area which is the check in our area but a couple of flexible spaces for things like robotics Woods those types of classes and some breakout space for them and then it's kind of counterpart in the middle school every grade level has this would have got space just outside their classrooms that allows that learning to extend straight straight out from classrooms in a variety of activities bring an entire class out if you want send for 5 students out to work outside your classroom if a teacher wanted to do that in a variety different types of settings and then in the middle school there's a cafeteria this is now looking towards Oakland so if you went out these doors right here you'd be on Oakland Avenue behind us with these Fairview this wall is will be covered up but it's the actual South Wall of the current high school gym so just across the way here and then this glass is now looking from the bateria into the the Middle School library one of the other things that we did to help on them from the budget standpoint as we did have a skylight over the top of the library we had another one running against this wall we decided with glass being here we can move locate glass of water Skylight that would serve both purposes so we put it here against this wall look bringing light in through the glass and still lighting the cafeteria and that was actually a pretty good savings and again no infringement on academic programs touch me in terms of e imagery we wanted to get tonight year feedback if I go back to this image what are the things were thinking about is was looking at the the messaging might start to take place inside the building where they have inside the cafeteria this nice big wall that we could do some interesting things with and we're showing and we're showing in this rendering picking up on if you go to the district's website you'll see some some sort of key phrases and keys where is like historic and an intimate and rigorous trying to pick up on that type of messaging within the building Furniture in port on two ideas here what is shown on the left again picking up on that for the intimate historic rigorous engaging open that type of messaging in add the building or maybe picking up more on you know we are we are the Bobcats that sort of big sort of almost more athletic oriented I would say kind of logo to wanted to get your opinion of Zuri is one of these resonate with you more than any other and if so which one and if you have ideas on how we could be better if you just say you could also just say I don't like either one want you think about doing something else instead but we are interested in sort of all good schools have really good strong cultures and this kind of messaging inside the building and help build culture and positive attitudes in a in a school so we're curious about the community's input on this aspect and this could by the way it does need to be limited to the cafeteria this could go into other parts of the building as well okay so you just take a few moments for that the end of the formal presentation there's plenty of us here that are very intimate with a project I'm going to set the mic down will be wandering around answering your questions but that's that's it for the final presentation any closing remarks don't just thank you so much for being here I will as long as anyone wants an answer any and all questions in this presentation to PowerPoint presentation will be posted on our web page and as well as the video of tonight's me I didn't been given to somehow either masking or re-facing that 1957 like gold color seems to me I don't know yeah yeah take at once or always been something I think we can look at its come up in a couple of our meetings, and right now it's not something that's been priced into the project so it would be Penny painting you do it to it would be an ad but that's something that we can do that. Make sure it's good input if you wouldn't mind writing that on your shoot so that we don't lose that that would be great Tiffany drawings of the ADA Compliant front of the high school insurance for working out the grades that they look at the house that will work if you go about three steps and then right ahead the threshold Legend feet to get it be a dream drawing of what it's going to change the break entrance will it be slate to match the listing high school. Schedule to be slight right now I would I was just cost-prohibitive so we're looking at a I understand that but it was just quad prohibited for trying to match the warm of the building as much as we can and in this we would've been sacrificing space to buy a ticket to get slave as it's very expensive Middle School is a I didn't point it out on the plane with there's a firewall that runs between the two as having technical architectural return but as a result of that there would have to be fire doors that separate the two and so they'll be an operational decision that the school district and make it they want those doors shut during the school day there is one centralized kitchen which is in my opinion is a good thing cuz that centralized is that function instead of having back here there's a satellite Kitchen in the high school Cooks the food and it pushes it over here so it's going to be happen is going to happen in one spot and then I'll be to serving Ares one for middle school and one for high school so students don't won't need to mix up and turns it you're going in those serving areas that makes sense but see about the 4th mixing cement with the older two okay so like I said why don't you guys if you don't mind continue doing your seats we will one around at if you have a question raise your hand will run around will answer is and he's able to stay as late as you will have questions thank you
