this marks are second in our design or planning where do I go back in our second community meeting tonight when you're going to be sharing with you to call nation of the following influence stage of programming in programming included 4-H staff 912 staff for ages 9-12 Administration or architectural team as well as our construction team representative as well as for we also actually today tweeted our third day of schematic design we also had one prior as mentioned this is our second community where we garnered feedback from those who participated as well as anyone who perhaps watch the video of black community and providing feedback we're here tonight because your info this is a Community Driven process and we want to ensure that we provide home opportunities for staff and for community and for parents to give important events so thank you for being here and very much appreciate I think you also importantly before I go on I want to provide you all with an anecdote some of you in this room can relate renovated play when you graduate the kitchen have a first meeting with the contractor the filter that you hired and you and you B&B Auto in my kitchen with my wife sit down and we talked about all the great things were going to do with red beige kitchen and casino on the contract and then two and a half weeks contractors the cost to do with my wife and I was dreaming up with the kitchen and it's $60,000 over so we have our next meeting where we engage in a process called value and that's what we have to reprioritize anecdote to illustrate the fact that what you're seeing here before you today is a dragon we're still in schematic design in Philly YouTube further down the road with design development and we get more firm cost estimate I want to be clear that nothing is fine nothing is fine however having said that I also let all of you know that we've been working collaboratively with our team of Architects and Builders and owner's rep as we journey down this process that dust and we do feel confident about what we're very with you but I also want to just be clear that this isn't a final draft by any figment of the imagination the importance of your feedback tonight so many just introducing people with us tonight so yeah Rick asked me Rick is with mksk we have Matt tell Matt is with a k s k a me Amy's with Perkins will Steve is our lead architect also with Perkins will we have Steve Steve here he's with Moody Nolan with Moody Nolan you introduce yourself in your team has from the very beginning apologize currently the owner of a cup of firmware to fix Islamic self insert foot in mouth Toledo this is our agenda for tonight's meeting these are desired intended out I want to talk to you briefly about our decision-making framework so are we above as I mentioned we did three full days of programming and they provide an inch foot we all 7th District Environmental we have met with a variety of staff and student user groups ever going to continue to do that as we gauge in design development in more detail drilled out as we go to like for example as we get in more detailed design development we're going to be meeting with the science department to talk more specifics about the precise layout of a science lab in 9th Grade science lab in 6th grade those kinds of music group meetings will take place we also have a committee of Architects that we're going to be reviewing all of those nmds Community meetings were all going to provide input to The District Court biggest record team is made up of her owner's rep to board members myself Beth Collier both principal so Tracy leaves and Robert Brown or architects Builders and we take those inputs and we meet as a core team weekly and then from that 14 we make recommendations to the board of education and in Board of Education or the is the group that will make the final decisions so that's the p.m. hey Ya 7 in August 22nd 9 a.m. those dates are hot off the press an added minutes ago incorrectly you're valuable my phone we're revisiting as part of my programming and at this time I'm going to turn it over to Steve Kirk's our leader Kentucky loud enough if not I can use microphone which is around here someplace Simpson if you were at our last community meeting some of the information I'm going to share with you going to feel a little bit like they have heard this before but it is meanings are always new people tend to feel Duran and so we want to cover a few things this is an start a graphic format a timeline of the process that we're looking at right now we are way over here on the left side way and really this is kind of the implementation side of it we really are in the design process right now that's that's going to take to get to go through the summer months to complete that so this is how to tell him how to roll out his concert for the the construction timeline there is a bit of a phase approach here so for instance my share this evening of planning for the new Middle School that needs to be completed before we can start working on the high school okay hopefully that makes some sense that was contemplated if they're really before design team was hired and brought on board was talked about in the the meetings at Community meetings leading up to the referendum was the likelihood that maybe the the notion that as part of making it feasible on the site to make the height the Middle School construction happen at the space were standing in the current Middle School cafeteria and the gymnasium might have to be demolished to provide enough you open Real Estate to make the Middle School we we really did at the school district challenged us as a design team is there a way not to do that other obbys cost and learning benefits to be able to keep this facility online and so we really took that too hard and there is no we haven't approached that we're going to share this evening if you're with us the last time you saw it then as well but really feel very confident at this point that we can keep this entire facility online and operating a while the new construction is happening okay so that's why it says not necessary up at the Top Line the key decision-making phases are really early in the process and other words how big is the the new building what kind of finish is would it have inside what see what kind of materials are going to use on the exterior construction those decisions you know at this point it's lines on a piece of paper easy to change the further we get into the design process the harder that gets as soon as they start turning a shovel full of dirt out here gets very expensive to start making those changes so those early decisions that were making now relative to the size of the price set the scope of it the level of quality that didn't finish are really important and we're going to be getting checks along the way from the from the construction team in terms of their opinion on what the project will cost okay Texas where we are now we're in the schematic design phase in fact we're just wrapping it up next week Friday the the design team will deliver to the owner's representative and the Alfred cornutus set of documents all the schematic design documents they will use those documents to prepare their estimates of what they think the project will cost others typically a Reconciliation process at friends actor that if there is some kind of missing misalignment between what they're saying on the drawings and what the budget will tolerate real good will have conversations about that will make adjustments but that's the process that were in right now they are the same sick thing in terms of providing a cost estimate what happened at the end of the design development phase which is the next phase will watch into the Board of Education will want to know before we step in the design development that we've got a project that is weird that's where the scope meets the budget that makes sense that we're moving ahead with some confidence that we're on the right track Community meetings again got it right this time thankfully 7 p.m. 8 a.m. 9 a.m. the next morning on the 21st and 22nd that's just out there in the future so I can put that in your calendars as well as the ones coming up in May I when we were together the last time we looked at a variety of of options and ask for your opinion your feedback you might remember doing that right on scheme to T2 what was the option that had the middle school facing to the meanest missile entry facing to the south side of the building you can see that right here this right here is the the northernmost extent of the building right now so you can see there's a separation between the two that's what's and I'll show this to you a little bit more detail here in a moment but that's what's allowing this new construction to happen there's a couple of comments that came along are they came from the from the community the last time as we went through the planning one of those was our desire it's really saw the logic and trying to bring special education to the first floor and as a result that took the central office to the maybe you remember that little bit of an input that was received one of the other things we asked you to do for me we had some poster boards up on the on the walls we asked you to put some dots on images interior images and exterior images terms of trying to get a trying to really can't take the Pulse of the community understand what do you like what don't you like so this is where they landed a lot of green that's ended up on the interior images more so then there's a but it's more evenly waited on the exterior which is an interesting result to look at that three images on there that got the most hits those three images that from where you're sitting so I'm going to blow that up for you really it's this this these three images which which I understand where the communities that is creating spaces that are basketball hours there's some natural materials introduced this is what we're reading into this anyway where there is nice daylight coming into that space a place where a student might be comfortable to sit down and work on their own what's a book study read what would that ever might be spaces that are provide some flexibility in terms of Furnishing again nice daylight a little bit no flexibility I agree flexibility in that image hours of house space gets used and then lastly in this is a thing that came through very strong in the programming phase that Andy mentioned a strong desire for connections to the outside getting intentional Outdoor Learning environments whether they be no underneath the trellis or out and other means or our ways on the site we met earlier this afternoon and presented essentially the same presentation to the high school and middle school t-shirt and there's a middle school teacher that has an outdoor garden and she was very keen on making sure that we incorporate that in the new site plant so those kinds of outdoor spaces were really important where so you do the same thing for exterior Jason this is where the dads ended up so I weigh more red dots on this then you saw on the interior images and it's kind of look at where the red dots and it up as opposed to the green. But in terms of where the most green. Send it up it's those three images interested enough this top left image you might recognize is the high school got a half a dozen red. I wonder if everybody that was looking at that image actually knew it was the image of the high school but he looks look at those three images through those images and let's look at those big and that is really an architecture and Architectural expression that respects the original high school that's kind of what I read into that anyway so we've kind of taken at 4:10 you'll see images tonight that will help you understand that a little bit more of a respectful of the form but in terms of the articular a little bit more contemporary on the lap this one a number of things I think people could read into that image you're looking at the two very historical building but something situated in between them that's connecting them together that's a little bit more modern somebody made that comment these are these were basic also that yellow stickies that we said you could put on the images like the glass connector but it looks dated another words it looks like maybe it was done in the 80s I'm just going to be making it up maybe it looks a little too for somebody again your historic 3rd Avenue Front to the high school was right after I was really only one. Difference between the one on the left in the in the after 1 okay so those are the desert that's what the that's what we're hearing in terms of feedback from from the community okay these are just in here for a reference these are existing floor plans of the high school so the first floor plan of the high school to teach you oriented now he's are typically tipped on their side so North is to the right It just fits better on a horizontal Farm format screen to Fairview Avenue is here 3rd Avenue to the right in Oakland to the Top Line is the building random is the current Middle School that the red line will show up again in the the plans that we see we're actually a look at more detailed plans this evening I'm going to give you an overview of those we don't have enough time to really dive into the detail but I'll give you the big picture but you can always look for that dotted Red Line because that will denote the perimeter current extent of the current of the high school as it sets today so when the new Middle School is attached to that you'll always be able to see sort of where that scene is between the two okay and then the second floor the high school Big Picture This is what we're looking at in this kind of purple color the Middle School in the blue a few things that happened in between the two and that are shared add a biggest of which I keep walking in front and serving areas in the middle there's a high school serving to one side in a middle school serving to the other so that allows early once Central Kitchen tip from an efficiency standpoint that's a that's a nice thing and then the other thing that's in the middle is where are goods and services come into the building and turned up deliveries and we're stuck hose out of the is primarily trash okay so that's happening still along Oakland I'll be at a little bit closer to Oakland because we needed to get it to the other side of a connecting Corridor that's what that's connecting the two the two buildings together we shall see in the in the floor plans okay but then again that red line is is the extent of the current High School text Alyssa the plan the first floor for the campus find the red line you find the current High School okay the high school in terms of its functions we are definitely improvements on the interior High School there's something there's many improvements are going to happen to the exterior building to to maintain and improve what's there doing some tuckpointing those kinds of things on the exterior of the building what's in the center of the high school right now is the theater bit will still be the theater when we're done we are going to make some improvements in the theater with some sight lines handicapped access to the stage those types of things but the theater will still be in the center of the building the historical trivia at when the building was built that was the Jim originally in that building was converted in I hope we know what year that was converted 1954 thank you buy into the theater and pack I had the opportunity to go up to the above the ceiling in the theater and the old gym lights are still hanging up there I never took them out okay so the theater is right in the middle we are moving the craft storage building taking up valuable real estate where there's nice Windows during daylight in for taking in pushing it into behind the theater and Friday a direct connection essentially wrapping than around the theater with on the on the north side of the building all the high school administrative spaces with a new secure entry and then flanking down the side corridors teaching and learning spaces of a variety of different types were also kind of carving into these areas you'll know Cindy's lighter colors you'll see a few of these up on the second floor as well at space is where we are going to take away the corridor while and have an open space for some informal student collaboration to happen also inserting and any number of locations some all conference rooms are small have acoustically separated spaces for students to work on collaborative projects together so I think it's create a variety of sizes and types of space tell long are just about the same kind of classroom marching down a corridor we still need classrooms but we also need other types of spaces okay where the current I keep calling it The techart keep at the tech Arts Wayne cuz he our classroom is in there which shop is in there there's a classroom like a robotic classroom in there as well it's going to be today's are to flex labs say robotics happening in there we see the Science Olympiad happening in there for instance the Woodshop still stays where it is with his classroom and a larger storage area in a finishing space while with a paint spray booth to see how to get those after spraying things and finishing things to get that exhausted out of the building we're consolidating music right here currently music is there with band and vocal bradding Orchestra into what is currently the High School faculty lounge and we're bringing a large Ensemble space in here that is there's any number of classes that have no 8 to 10 students so we don't need to take up a lot of Real Estate a small class a recruiting a smaller space for that and then some so support support spaces for music instrument storage some rehearsal small practice Rooms To Go with that the high school gym will still stay the heist Jam the locker rooms are getting completely redone and Consolidated in fact into this zone right here providing a new coaches area and it was a much bigger training room and currently exist today in high school this is an area I mentioned that where the kitchen is going so that's right there the high school serving goes towards the high school side of the Middle School swimming goes to the Middle School side which is right here so the food will be prepared here pushed into High School serving area or pushed into the middle school series and then served out into those into those buildings the high school currently has that contain cafeteria or more open and kind of collaboration space it happen right here so study hall going to happen there. Any can happen there currently high school students eat in any number of spaces in high school that's not just in the high school cafeteria some of the students like to eat in the music space is because they feel very connected to those programs we envision that still going to happen in the high school create another one that's kind of a larger collaboration zones right here just outside of the tech labs Envision them eating their as well friendly High School just opposite of this then and this is that mean connecting Corridor then that connects both halves of the building together is the new Middle School gym with its own locker rooms the nice thing about that is now with the Middle School cafe . that becomes a nice pre-function space to both gyms as opposed to being separated by a large lawn area if there's a tournament happening for instance now there's another gym venue connected in that area that you can now use you can now use a middle school locker room for a visiting high school team that might be playing basketball for instance in the high school gym so there's some benefits there are some psycho locating those things together then really want to get past this here is really in Orange opposite the high school on the south side of the building again south being on this end is high school and I'm sorry the Middle School administration area with its own secure entry and then on the first level is fourth and fifth grades does it typically for classrooms at Surrey a an open area where students can push right outside of those classrooms teachers can still supervised to see group work happening really to extend that learning from the classroom space the light is the space that the that all those academic areas wrap around so it's in the courts in the heart as a philosophical and literal center of the building and then flanking that on the first floor here and on this end we've taken l'education spaces member that was a comment that came out of the first community meeting bring those to the first floor so now we're seeing those on the first floor in the corners here and here and there was one extra classroom here we're calling a swing classroom we notice it in Rome bubble happening right now in first grade just gives them some flexibility in terms of how to handle that in the future in the Middle School all right Middle School cafeteria, so I think I mentioned let's go look at the second floor then is less space on the second floor that's typical in the school spaces that have high volumes like theaters and gems and cafeterias push themselves up through that second floor elevation so if you see a white area with an X through it like the high school gym that's only because there's no floor there right you'd be looking down into the high school gym so we started in the High School 3rd Avenue over here North is to the right we see teaching and learning space is wrapping around the current theater he said those collaboration zones he's lighter areas when they are there's one here that we've kind of carved into those spaces with some new classrooms in this is own science is aligned on the Oakland side of the building now and we are preparing to science labs with a prep room in the middle which is something they don't now in high school and are very you know they look very much looking forward to that the current High School library is in this location it's essentially oriented so that it fronts that new circulation path and right now it's basically an open area to the circulation Patton otherwise you're not a wall or door that you go through the library at this kind of part of that space and around it wraps a variety of what you what would we look to you like small conference rooms are places where students can work together on projects there are a couple of Industry small spaces there's the Explorer classroom and then there's some tech help support space right in this corner with a basically a work counter if you've been to the Apple Store have the Genius bar tonight with that basically what that is you can walk up and get some tech support So if you haven't problem with your device or some software there's somebody there that can help you with that okay the wellness are are you staying the wellness area the access to it is changing a little bit it's currently this area the building is if you're familiar with the high school is about 5 feet lower than the balance to the high school so we're we working out is dare get down into that we have moved wrestling up into this area we need to remove a pot long to make that happen but we've looked at that structural and feel like we can do that but it also next season at florerias now available to other uses the central office I mentioned is moving to the second floor you're seeing that in Orange here and there I so it's to get it to work we had split it into two two areas to make that work the middle school that is 6th grade 7th grade 8th grade wrapping around each of them have wrapping around restorative open collaboration space and then middle school art is here in that corner and a middle school flexlab that's kind of the equivalent of the flexlab they mentioned in the high school which her right in that area sets the basic planning for the building impact looking at ways to bring daylight in your secret to see some interior perspectives that them you know highlighted for you okay thing is that my water this is what set pawniard on this campus today this should look pretty familiar to you just get you oriented and here's a high school so 3rd Avenue is over here this is 1st Avenue the Annex so this is Fairview as it comes into his term John and Oakland is over here so we are in here right now in the in the cafeteria original building on this campus for that direction State original High School building from the 20s and based on the feedback that we got we've been really been keeping an eye on that original building in terms of format shape and how that might begin to influence the planning in the The Foot Book in the field for the new the new building so now you're saying new construction that the mine is now the scene between old and new new being on this end of the building site of the new Middle School butts in. With the. The data lines there now are the annex and the existing the building were in which we'll go go away book ending the campus now with the new Middle School construction is kind of being a little bit larger and it's happening with the high school and I'm ways to bring daylight into the interior that space so what's the current buildings are demolished this is what your you know shortly and stayed for the okay site plan like I said about two different options at work today looks at Fairview Avenue and actually pushing Fairview Avenue all the way through this is we're here last night. we're here last night at the Civic spaces meeting that we had. And this is one of the things at the Civic spaces in the city is talking about his pushing Fairview all the way through I think about 25 years ago when they put actually in the turnaround that sits in this location today what Fairview Avenue become we don't know at this stage this is a a two-lane road is this a one-lane pair with Oakland going north and fairly Dirty Boy Child doesn't have traffic calming opportunities along with use it as she came out how is that handled that something that we're currently looking at it with her looking at with the traffic Engineering in the city of Fairview Heights you can think about what state was just talking about with the long Western hallway that goes into the building and everything Pacific it happened with Fairview vs sidewalk Echo Play From First to third Bobcat way and everything happens along that that way just like it doesn't get inside the building you've got enough parking off of it the drop off at Catholic funerals off of it but then you have this place long here would you be all those Outdoor Learning opportunities that you all identified in those early classes early in your leave the first community meeting earlier today we talked about the garden that he down to sell the an Annex in that could happen along that space as well as it is to become a really interesting organizing space for the entire campus Building that this campus does it is you've got about 2 Acres of all space scattered around these buildings today I saw as we're walking over here there is some soccer people or as a kid playing out into the new building today because Consolidated building you don't have a body put a half acres of open space and things like this youth soccer field start to happen Alton now the soccer the kids who play soccer or do not have an official field that's that would fit their you there at you proper entry into the new Middle School at the Artscape in Southgate play areas in about 25 thousand square feet of play areas in the building today we would have the same thing in the future so in that looks looks are we having at 15 around the balls out of Oakland all those kind of things but that's all part of it you complaining today on site you got about a hundred and sixty parking spaces in the future we have the same you're not losing any parking in any of these schemes an alternative to that is it at that traffic call me if if Jerry doesn't want to go all the way through you could actually cut it off some of what it happens today. have the drop-off they would go back out and you had access to the proposal parking areas for everything else in this team stays the same except that you would stop. Emerson Macho we look at it very similar to what you have today because then that turnaround for fire happens right in this location with the new building would have to Extended down and make that turn around to the east can we have the access to the parking at the drop off after me off of old would rather not being off of Fairview you still have all the open space with soccer that you've got The Hardscape and Sasuke play areas in this location have your access off on 1st Avenue where were very interested in what your opinions are on these type of games that any other alternative ideas that you may have to pay work best for the community and there was the General organization Rio Grande campus okay thank you so the sheets that you have on the back side has the three site plans that Rick just describe we are we would love to get your feedback and input on those there might be one that feels like a clear favor to you is circulator put an X hard to say I like this one or I like this one but you really should I got this is my favorite but if he could really be my favorite if you change this one aspect of it so you can write a note about that to us and that's great feedback for us to get okay let's keep rolling how to look at the exterior of the building one of the things that was interesting to us about the exterior of the high school knowing that the 1923 building is the call which is really these two images here is if you look at and if you look at the all the subsequent editions to the high school for the flat-roofed additions the gym for instance she has in common is the brick pattern actually go over there and look at it the brick pattern is the same it's a it's called a Flemish Garden Bond looks like sort of a regular brick here a couple of regular bricks in a brick that they took and turned it sideways which is called RS architect call that it had her course the brick owes you know goes this way into the wall instead of right here it's called I'm getting technical 40 but that's called a running bond where they just no stack and Mikey would typically see in a house so the brick patch even in the the tech arts building and in the gym is the same brick pattern so I think we want to carry that through into the new construction to help tide at all together definitely looking at a brick color in the same palette it's that brick if you look at it it's not one color it's a range of colors so that helps give it a you know little bit of the Posada little bit more texture a little bit more play window pattern in Windows facing to look at the original high school that's got these wonderfully large old double hung Windows other about 5 ft wide nearly 10 ft tall they bring wonderful daylight into the classrooms in one of the things we know today from research is that nice natural light into those classrooms actually is a good thing for teaching and learning set something that we want to be very kind is it a very mindful of is how to bring natural light in the bed but that sort of pattern in spacing you know get that gets a building the existing high school that's got that certain texture that certain Rhythm that were that were looking at and considering as well so first image of new construction here so middle what was in the Four Aces Fairview Avenue overlooking North in this image how is existing High School down at this end these are the subsequent editions to the high school with the gym and so forth play rapping this and media center in the middle cafeteria is at space that is set right alongside the current high school gym but for the wrapping that with something in terms of its vocabulary is very similar to the all Regional High School take a seat at hear one of the things that you've got on your sheets on the first page of your sheets are two elevational images of the high school has been a little bit of a debate running so what that what time Middle School entry should look like you have an option that has what we call a flat Arch what you're seeing here I'll show you those elevation views here momentarily but there's a flat Arch and there's another that's got more of a little bit of a portico sweet like to get your opinion and if there's one or the other of those a feels more appropriate for Grandview comment on that so here you going to see the only thing that's going to change now his that entry so there is at for the Portico entry Scott will get more cover to it columns at Define its edges they're you're saying it now down at a ground-level perspective looking for the South and to your looking North into the I guess it would be west from the southeast Middle School it's an entry and again that other style of Entry that is the head on view that you have at the bottom of your sheets I believe that's the flat Arch and then the more sort of squared off entry so this is if you're standing to the south side of the building right on axis with its its main front door it's kind of the elevation view that you see there so again picking up on the brick color of the rhythm of the Windows a type of the window is the articular pitched roof type of architecture looking from the southwest so we're looking to the north east playground in the foreground Middle School turn around in this Behavior now seeing Russell looking at the middle school gym having a slow car pitched roof on it you might notice that this is the existing Tech arts building so we kind of pulled that line across with a solid wall download which is completely appropriate in a gym where balls bouncing off of it and so forth and looking at the possibility I have some windows up high to help break up that that the elevation that facade the massing of it so we'll show you an interior perspective of that as well checking in a view from the southwest weather changing out to the more Portico entry and now this is down low from the Oakland side looking at the building again and just change to the Portico a couple of interior perspective to share with you when we do our work today in the office we are essentially building the building three dimensional he's a three-dimensional model guy in the computer so these are these are reasonably rough perspectives that we pulled right out of our out of our building model he added a little bit of color to them this is coming right inside the front door so stairs at blanket going up to the second floor Middle School glass elevation that looks directly into the into the into the library and through the library then you can look into the middle school cafeteria so that why you're saying back here you're going to see a show a minute in the middle tennis perspective of the Middle School cafeteria okay the literal and kind of philosophical heart of the building which is its its library media center actually in the cafeteria Middle School cafeteria Commons to high school gym who all is to our right we're looking at ways that we can begin to articulate that wall it's a bit technical but that's going to be a firewall separation between the two so we're going to do something with that elevation architectural e22 to accommodate that fire separation looks into the middle school library we're on the Fairview side of the building to the Oakland side of the building okay so we're standing East looking West so these doors were take you right out to Oakland Avenue that by the way through there underneath that bridge element that's the quarter that mean quarter that connects North to South through the building view of the Middle School gym again pitched roof looking at ways of working and we can begin to articulate that whether or not we'll end up with are glass in there is Neo debatable right now I might become translucent I might become a little bit more punched opening but that's something that were exploring definitely seating in the middle school jam to buy those competition games today so it's a quick look at what that might look like and then the last one we had to share for you is that collaborate this isn't a high school that collaboration space that's just outside of those technical education classrooms where the flex labs are so we're looking at a variety of different locations both in the Middle School in the high school how do we connect spaces together one of the ways were looking at that are so disorders notion of glass garage doors that go up and allow spaces to pretty seamlessly connect to each other so that's what those two text labs are there just behind here is where the the wood shop is there's a business classroom here for instance I think that's the last image I've got for you we are asking you to she said look at those that you tell us anything about the building and what you saw tonight that you like to be about the planning of the building it could be about the images that you're seeing of the exterior like it I don't like it that we really are specifically asking of the comment on that Middle School entry dude is there one that you like better than another one and then we'd love to hear why
